Due to social distancing, RUNWAY will run digitally for the first time in its history. With responsibility for ourselves and others in the community, we have decided that all Scottish Hair & Beauty Industry Award 2020 live events will run in a digital format to ensure the safety of our partners, employees, communities and to comply with health requirements.

The RUNWAY Competition is a fantastic concept encouraging stylists to express their creative vision by styling an on trend finish with a catwalk feel. 

RUNWAY 2020 ‘Virtual’ Theme this year is  – Masked Elegance . Masks will be the new normal for a while so why not make them a proper fashion statement! 

Masks can symbolize many personality traits including elegance, authority, dignity, sophistication, mystery, and seduction.

Entries will need to present a fantastic concept in this theme live to a viewing audience at the Awards 29th November 2020.

Deadline for RUNWAY concept submissions is 1st November 2020.

RUNWAY is free to enter, but limited to 10 entries. Please complete the application form to enter. You will then be required to follow up with a "before photo" so that the Judges can compare this with the "after" ! Also, you will need to provide a concept/mood board to support your submitted concept.

For the RUNWAY 2020 Virtual Prize, We have partnered once again with Kryolan Professional Make- up. As one of the first cosmetics brands in the world. Kryolan is known as THE professional Make-up of stage and screen. Now running for over 70 year, There is only one real professional Makeup maker, Their range allows you to accomplish your tasks effectively and create incredible works of art. They encourage all entries this year to be creative as possible, and look forward to seeing Scotland’s creative vision.

Judging Criteria

40% Style & Finish – Hair

  • Demonstrate ability to create a mid to long hair fashion runway look and explain the inspiration behind it.
  • Total look Styling technique and control of hair should be demonstrated.
  • Excellent finishing skills of the hair must be demonstrated.
  • The use of hair extensions, pieces, padding, wefts and accessories are allowed to create the look.

40% Application & Finish - Make-up

  • Demonstrate ability to create a fashion catwalk make-up look.
  • Creative use of colour and modern interpretation of the theme – MASKED ELEGANCE

10% - Presentation

  • The presentation must include the inspiration and background behind their interpretation of the theme

10% Overall Look 

  • Style, make-up, creative flair
  • Relevant individual vision/ interpretation/ creative personalisation.
  • Professional finish

The Rules

  1. Demonstrate creativity in a total on trend, modern, runway look.
  2. Allow creative style to follow the set theme, Cut and colour that complement each other and work in harmony.
  3. Any colouring to be completed prior to the competition.
  4. Where applicable, colour work should reflect professional expertise to enhance the look
  5. Clothes styling complements the overall total look. Clothes, accessories, nails and overall styling to complement the overall total look.
  6. Extensions hairpieces, extensions, padding, wefts and accessories are allowed to create the look. Please note, no full-head wigs are allowed. Show beautiful style and finish with the option to use hair extensions and pieces. no more than 30%.
  7. The use face paints is also allowed.
  8. Please note that the competitor should create their final model look on the day of the competition within the competition time limit.
  9. The competition time limit is 90 minutes. Competitors will be alerted when there is 15 minutes and then 5 minutes of the competition remaining. Competitors are expected to complete styling, finishing, clothes styling and make-up within the competition time limit.
  10. Please note, the model can be dressed.
  11. The model should be devoid of all make-up, lash extensions/false lashes can be applied prior to the competition. 
  12. The hair can be set in rollers prior to the competition.
  13. All entries will require to be supported by a photo of "before" so that the Judges can compare this against the "after", and also a concept /mood board.

COMPETITORS ARE EXPECTED TO BRING ALL TOOLS, PRODUCTS AND EQUIPMENT TO THE COMPETITION.

Any electrical tools MUST BE PAT TESTED (check the time frame 1 or 3 years).

The Organisers will not provide any additional supporting technical equipment i.e. projector, laptops etc

Additional Virtual Rules 2020

  1. When the competition time ends, each competitor will be expected to present their model and give an overview to the judges & audience on the finished look. Each entry will be given 1 minute to present their creation and ask their model to ‘work the camera’.
  2. The presentation must include the inspiration and background behind their interpretation of the theme. Their presentation should give details behind the concept of the total look.
  3. Please note the competitor must present from their own device. Making sure the details of your creation are visible to both the judges and the viewing audience.
  4. A winner will be decided through a live vote as well as feedback from our judges. The winner will be announced at the closing point of the industry awards ceremony.
